Quinndary Weatherspoon drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer to help Mississippi State (11-14, 4-9) down Vanderbilt 75-74. Weatherspoon tallied a career-high 24 points to along with four his rebounds. Gavin Ware collected his seventh double-double of the season with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
The Bulldogs erased a 17-point deficit in the final 14:12 to earn their biggest comeback victory of the season.
Alabama (16-9, 7-6) returns to Tuscaloosa following a 76-69 victory at LSU. Senior guard Retin Obasohan scored a career-high 35 points and four rebounds to pace the Crimson Tide offense. Justin Coleman contributed 21 points, while Arthur Edwards added 12 points. Combined, the trio accounted for 68 of Alabama's 76 points in the effort.
The Crimson Tide enter the weekend riding a five-game winning streak. Obasohan leads Alabama with 16.7 points per game while Shannon Hale adds 10.7 points per outing. Dazon Ingram logs a team-best 5.9 rebounds per contest.
Alabama holds a 120-73 advantage in the all-time series, including an 82-80 overtime victory earlier this season in Starkville. Mississippi State is also seeking to snap a six-game losing streak in Coleman Coliseum.
“We just have to stay humble,” said Ware, who leads MSU with his 16.0 scoring clip. “We still have the last half of the conference season to go to set ourselves up for a good chance in the SEC Tournament. That's our main focus right now.”
Following Saturday's contest, Mississippi State remains on the road for a matchup against Texas A&M on Wednesday. The action from College Station is set to tip at 6 p.m. on ESPN2.
