What a win last night! For those who weren't able to make it to The Hump for our buzzer-beater against Vanderbilt, I hope you were able to catch the game on SEC Network or see the final shot on SportsCenter, the No. 1 play of the day. That was an incredible play by Quinndary to win it and an even more impressive job by Coach Howland and our team to mount a 17-point, second-half comeback.
We've all seen the signs of improvement this season and it felt great to have a breakthrough win like that. As Ben said after the game, it's very rewarding to see the efforts of hard work pay off in such a tangible and thrilling way. I know that game meant a lot to the team and to fans alike. As the regular season winds down, I hope you'll join us in supporting the guys at our final two home games, February 27 against South Carolina and March 5 against Auburn as we honor our seniors.
DIAMOND DOGS OPEN 2016 CAMPAIGN FRIDAY
MSU's preseason top 15 baseball team begins the 2016 season this weekend with four games at Dudy Noble Field/Polk-DeMent Stadium. The Left Field Lounge is already full of trailers and the grandstands will be full of fans by Friday as we begin a four-game opening weekend. First pitch on Friday is at 4:30 p.m. against Florida Atlantic, with a doubleheader Saturday at noon (South Dakota State) and 3:30 p.m. (FAU), followed by Sunday's game against SDSU at 3:30 p.m.
The weather looks beautiful all weekend, with opening day projected to be sunny with a high of 72! As we look ahead to spending time at Dudy Noble, some notices and reminders are needed.
First, as you may have seen, the wooden deck surrounding the outfield wall has been extended in right field to match the new location of the fence itself. With that extension, gameday management has added a no-standing safety lane along the right field deck for emergency personnel and others to have access to all areas of the deck. Policy prohibits blocking this area in any form.
Secondly, a reminder that in compliance with the Southeastern Conference and MSU Game Management policies, all coolers and ice chests will be checked at all gates before being allowed entry into the stadium. Anyone with prohibited items will be denied access. Gates open two hours before first pitch, though servicing of suites and outfield rigs is permitted on game days up until 30 minutes before gates open (which is two hours before first pitch). The stadium must be cleared during the half hour before the opening of the gates.
If you ever have any questions about policies, please email eventmgt@athletics.msstate.edu.
WRAPPING UP THIS WEEK'S EMAIL IN MAROON AND WHITE
- After a deserved full week off, Coach Schaefer and the No. 13 Bulldogs are back in action tomorrow night, hosting No. 16 Kentucky in The Hump. Four regular-season games remain for the women, and each one is important for us to reach our goal of hosting the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament next month. We need you there to give our ladies the homecourt advantage they've come to count on!
- Good luck to several of our teams on the road this weekend, too, as track and field heads to South Bend, our women's tennis team plays at UAB and Samford, men's tennis travels to Tulane, women's golf heads to New Orleans and our softball and men's golf teams both happen to be in Mobile this week.
- And finally, speaking of softball, a big congratulations to Coach Stuedeman and our Bulldogs for going 4-0 on opening weekend and thank you to everyone who was a part of the grand opening of Nusz Park. We were thrilled to see the realization of years of planning and preparing. If you couldn't make it out this past weekend, make plans to be on campus March 4 for the next MSU game at Nusz Park.
We appreciate what you do for Mississippi State Athletics and want to encourage you to get others involved. There are three things you can do to help the athletic department at Mississippi State reach its desired goals –
1. Buy Season Tickets
2. Financially Support the Bulldog Club
3. Get Others To Do The Same
Thanks for taking the time to read this Update.
Hail State!
