
Track & Field Returns To Nashville For Music City Challenge

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Nashville is being invaded by the Mississippi State track and field teams this weekend for the third time during the 2016 indoor season as the Bulldogs compete in the Music City Challenge.
Last weekend, the MSU men's team had an outstanding performance at the Armory Track Invite in New York City. The men earned first place with a score of 88 points.
The Music City Challenge will lead off with the high jump at 4 p.m. CT. Logan Boss and Deja Givens will be jumping for the MSU women's team. Boss finished fourth with a clearance of 5-07.25 two weeks ago in Nashville at the Vanderbilt Invite.
Competing for the men's team in the high jump will be Seth Peace.
Brianna Smith will partake in the women's weight throw. Smith's best throw of the season came at the Purple Tiger Invite where she placed fourth with a throw of 58-04.50, the second-best throw in school history.
Friday's running events will begin at 7 p.m. Alon Lewis and Zaria Tillman will take the track to compete in the 200m dash for the Maroon and White. Lewis will move on to compete in the 400m unseeded competition, while Tillman will hold it down for MSU in the 60m hurdles and the 60m dash Saturday.
Kimari Martin will take on the challenge of competing in the seeded 400m run. Martin holds the fourth-best time in school history with a time of 54.45 in the event.
For the men's team, Rodrigo Rocha, Philip Smith, Rasheed Tatham and Charles Taylor will partake in the 200m dash. Rocha and Taylor will later compete in the 60m dash.
The 5000m run at the Music City Challenge will see the likes of Cornelia Griesche, Mia Meydrich and Kristy Terp for the women, while Curtis Kelly competes for the men.
Saturday's competition in the field will continue at noon, while competition on the track will lead off at 10 a.m.
Sydney Rodkey will single-handedly represent the Maroon and White in the pole vault. Rodkey holds the MSU school record in the pole vault with a height of 12-08.75.
Leah Lott will partake in long jump prior to the 60m hurdles. Joining Lott in the 60m hurdles will be Tiffany Flynn, Ste'yce McNeil and Zaria Tillman.
On the men's team, Ro'Derick Spears will try his hand at 60m hurdles. He clocked a time of 8.01 in New York.
Starting off the events on the track Saturday, Shannon Fair and Antonia Hehr will run in the 3000m unseeded run. Fair competed in the event at the Conference Clash running the MSU freshman record time of 9:51.97. This will be Hehr's first time to compete in the 3000m this year. The men's team will bring JT Mackay and Andrew Monaghan to compete for the 3000m.
Fair will move on to compete in the mile seeded race. Slated to join Fair in the mile are Marta Freitas, Madison Milhoan and Ffion Price, making their first appearance in the event this season. Freitas will also partake in the 3000m run seeded competition.
The MSU men's team is leaving the mile to Caden Foos and Patrick Monaghan. Patrick Monaghan holds the school's second-best time in the mile, recorded at 4:07.18. Foos and Patrick Monaghan will also be participating in the 800m run seeded event. This is the first time this season the men's team will compete in the 800m run.
The Maroon and White will call on Kaelin Kersh to compete in the 800m run for the women's team. Kersh posted a time of 2:21.14 for her last attempt at the 800m run at the Conference Clash.
The action of the Music City Challenge will begin in the field on Friday at 4 p.m. with the running events starting at 7 p.m. On Saturday, events on the track will start at 10 a.m. and the field events kick off at noon.
