STARKVILLE, Miss. – With 38 days left until MSU launches into the 2017 indoor season, MSU coach Steve Dudley and staff have announced their class for the early signing period.
The track and field program will add a total of seven new faces to the Bulldog family, four of which are ranked in the top five in the United States for their respective events, while another owns the national record in his native country.
The class is highlighted by hurdler Charles Brockman. A native of Plano, Texas, Brockman leads the country in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 51.11. He is also top three in the country in the 110hh (13.75 – No. 2 in U.S.) and 300mH (36.39 – No. 3 in U.S.).
MSU adds the fifth-ranked sprinter in the 400-meter dash in Terry Conwell, a senior from Decatur, Georgia. Conwell also owns a personal best time of 21.16 in the 200-meter dash.
Terry's twin brother, Terryon Conwell, will also be joining his brother with the Bulldogs. Terryon's 200-meter dash time is fifth among all athletes in the 2017 class. He owns personal bests of 10.45 in the 100-meter dash and 20.94 in the 200-meter dash.
The Bulldogs also add an international javelin thrower from Grenada in Anderson Peters. Peters is a multiple time CARIFTA Games champion at the discipline and in 2016 earned a bronze medal at the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, where he set a new Grenadian national record. He owns a personal best throw of 79.65 meters. Peters will join a javelin squad at MSU that already includes 2016 national champion Curtis Thompson.
MSU also nabbed a distance runner from Boulder, Colorado in Luke Zacharias. Zacharias' personal bests include a time of 4:36.66 in the 1600m run, 9:50.45 in the 3200m run and a cross country 5k time of 15:58.00.
Audrey Honiotes is a Georgia cross country state champion, and finished inside the top 5 at state championships a total of three times during her illustrious high school career. Hailing from Hatwell, Georgia, Honiotes is also a two-time state runner-up in the 3200-m run. She owns personal bests of 5:08.88 in the 1600m run, 10:57.55 in the 3200m run and a cross country 5k time of 17:57.34.
Capping the class is thrower Alicia Viveros from Bakersfield, California. Viveros is ranked third amongst all returners in the Hammer Throw with a personal best of 40.21 meters. She also owns a personal best discus throw of 44.2 meters along with a 12.4 meter shot put PR.
"We are really, really excited about the kids we were able to get to join our program during the early signing period," MSU coach Steve Dudley said. "All of our coaches have done a tremendous job recruiting. Over the last several years, there has been a pattern of National Champions, Olympians and SEC Champions coming out of Mississippi State, and we want to see that trend continue and grow. I am looking forward to seeing what this group can accomplish over the course of their careers as Bulldogs and beyond."
