League Coaches Name Ross Second-Team All-SEC
December 06, 2016 | Football
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Following a senior season in which he rewrote the Mississippi State record books, wide receiver Fred Ross was named second-team All-Southeastern Conference by the league's coaches, the SEC announced Tuesday.
This marks the second-straight season Ross has been named All-SEC as he earned first team honors by the coaches and second team by the Associated Press in 2015. The 2016 honor marks the 22nd All-SEC Coaches' honor for the Bulldogs in the Dan Mullen era.
A native of Tyler, Texas, Ross owns six school records, including four career records: catches (195), consecutive games with a catch (34), 100-yard receiving games (10) and receiving yards (2,484).
Along with leading MSU this season in receptions (68) and yards (873), Ross ranks first in the SEC in touchdown receptions (12), third in receptions per game (5.7) and fifth in receiving yards per game (72.8). Ross is tops in the SEC in 10+ yard catches (36). The best performance of the season for Ross came against Arkansas on Nov. 19 as he made a season-high 10 catches for a career-high 171 yards and tied a career-high with two receiving touchdowns.
Ross and the rest of the Bulldogs have one more game remaining in the 2016 season as they take on Miami (Ohio) in the St. Petersburg Bowl, Dec. 26 at 10 a.m. CT on ESPN.
