With the holidays firmly upon us, I want to start this week by wishing safe travels to all Bulldogs traveling as the year comes to an end. From all of us in the Mississippi State athletic department, we wish our coaches, players, staffs, alumni, students and fans of all varieties a merry Christmas this weekend and an enjoyable holiday season.
Of course, we know that many of you who are traveling will be joining us in Florida for the St. Petersburg Bowl on December 26. Coach Mullen and the team will arrive in St. Pete this evening on our flight out of Starkville and we're looking forward to seeing those of you coming down to support your Bulldogs.
For those who haven't yet secured tickets, you can do so at www.hailstate.com/tickets where you can also choose to purchase tickets and donate them to local military if you are unable to attend yourself.
For all who want to keep up with the team during their bowl trip, make sure to visit www.hailstate.com/gameday for up-to-the-minute information, links to videos and stories and much more as our Bulldogs prepare to face Miami of Ohio.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ROLLING
I've done this several times already in my short time as the Athletic Director, but once again, Coach Schaefer and our women's basketball team are deserving of praise. Now 13-0 on the year, the team is coming off a sweep of the Women of Troy Classic in Los Angeles, which included a hard-fought and impressive win against host USC in the title game, and a blowout victory last night in Starkville. Twice in the last three games we've scored 90 points, and perhaps more importantly to Coach Schaefer, we've held both of those opponents to under 50 in the process.
Our ladies are off for Christmas, then they're back at The Hump next Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Northwestern State and they open SEC play by hosting LSU on January 1 at 2 p.m. I hope you'll join us in supporting this outstanding program.
MEN'S BASKETBALL DOMINATES USM
Meanwhile, Coach Howland and his men have won four of their last five games, including a completely dominant win over in-state foe Southern Miss on Monday. Thanks to all who joined us in Jackson, and those who came got to see quite the show as our Bulldogs won by a final score of 86-44 and set a school record by making 17 three-pointers.
Our men are back in town twice during Christmas break as we host Morehead State tomorrow night at 6 then welcome UMKC on the 29th 7 p.m.
BASEBALL SEASON APPROACHING, LIMITED SEASON TICKETS REMAINING
It happened fast, but baseball season and the opening of the Andy Cannizaro Era at MSU is already near. On Friday, February 17 we host a strong Texas Tech team to begin the 2017 season and I hope all of you will be there to support our guys. If you haven't purchased them yet, a limited number of season tickets remain, so be sure to act quickly and visit www.hailstate.com/tickets or call the ticket office today.
We appreciate what you do for Mississippi State Athletics and want to encourage you to get others involved. There are three things you can do to help the athletic department at Mississippi State reach its desired goals –
1. Buy Season Tickets
2. Financially Support the Bulldog Club
3. Get Others To Do The Same
Thanks for taking the time to read this Update. Â
Hail State!
