STARKVILLE, Miss. – Just days after wrapping up a strong fall season, the Mississippi State women's golf team signed two standouts on Wednesday MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm feels can make immediate impacts.
"We are thrilled with this year's signing class. Aubre Jones, an AJGA All-American who is ranked in the Top 40 of the 2017 class is a very good player. Bair Stockett, a national competitor and All-State award winner from Jackson prep, is also a very solid pickup for us," MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. "It's exciting to get to add these girls to the team, and we can't wait to get them here."
Aubree Jones
A top 40 recruit in her class according to Junior Golf Scoreboard and an AJGA Rolex Junior All-American, the Covington, Tenn., native has been a long-time commit to the Bulldogs. She was a four-time TSSAA district and regional champion from 2013-2016. Jones won the Tennessee state championship at Brighton High School in 2013 and 2014 and finished as runner up in 2015 and 2016.
Along with her stellar career on the high school links, Jones experienced great success on the state, regional, and national levels as well. Jones won the 2014 and 2015 Tennessee Girls Junior Amateur Championship and in 2014 she was named the Tennessee Junior Amateur Player of the Year. In 2016, she had 8 top 5 finishes highlighted with a victory at The Wally, shooting an impressive 70-64. She also finished runner up at the AJGA Davis Love III Junior Open as well as the Bubba Conlee National Junior Golf Tournament. In 2015, she was selected as one of three Tennessee representatives to join the USGA Women's State Team Championship where her team finished 12th overall. In 2015 and 2016 Jones qualified for the prestigious USGA Girls Junior Championship. In 2015 she made it to the round of 32 contestants and in 2016 she made it to the round of 64 contestants.
"I've been counting down the days until Nov. 9 so I could finally sign to be a Bulldog," Jones said. "I can not wait to get to Starkville and play under coach Brown-Lemm. They all made me feel so at home. I'm very excited about what all is to come."
Blair Stockett
A home-state recruit, the Jackson, Miss., native was the second of the day to sign with the Bulldogs, making her the first Mississippi native golfer to sign with MSU since current LPGA star Ally McDonald donned the Maroon and White.
Stockett was a standout at Jackson Prep, where she was a MAIS Girls State Championship medalist in 2016 and finished third individually in 2013. In 2015, she was a member of the state champion team, where she was a runner up individual medalist. She was named to the Mississippi Preps All State first team in 2015 and was the 2014 Mississippi Junior Golf Association Girls Player Of The Year. In 2016 she was a finalist for the Wendy's High School Heisman.
"I'm really excited about going to Mississippi State. The coaches and team are so welcoming and great to be around," Stockett said. "I can't wait to see what the future holds as a Bulldog."
