What a wonderful feeling to have the Golden Egg back home in Starkville. I couldn't be happier for Coach Mullen, for his staff, for the team and for MSU fans everywhere – myself included – after such an impressive and enjoyable Egg Bowl win on Saturday. The emotions involved in rivalries are always so intense, making it that much more meaningful to walk off the field with the trophy in our hands. Congratulations to Bulldogs everywhere for the victory and to Coach Mullen's team for a truly dominant performance.
As we move forward, I want to address the possibility of our team continuing to play into the postseason. Nothing is set in stone, but we are optimistic that Mississippi State will once again have the opportunity to play in a bowl game, making it seven-straight years for our program to reach the postseason.
The options for potential destinations are many, and they include some new locations, as any possible bowl we play in will be outside of the usual SEC bowl structure. We expect to have final word after this weekend, and we will distribute information on how to purchase tickets as soon as we learn the final destination. Be on alert Sunday and make sure to check your email and www.hailstate.com for those details as soon as they become available.
BASKETBALL TEAMS IN ACTION THIS WEEK
Before final exams begin next week, Coach Howland and our men's basketball team have two more home games this weekend ahead of their break to finish the academic semester. I hope you'll join us on Thursday against Oregon State at 8 p.m. and on Sunday afternoon at 4 against Georgia State.
Meanwhile, Coach Schaefer has our women's basketball team up to their best ranking in school history, checking in at No. 6 in the country this week! I am very proud of our ladies and the entire staff. I know we're all looking forward to watching them the rest of the year. On Saturday, they will be back in action on the road as they play Iowa State at 1:30 p.m. with the game broadcast on FSN. Good luck to both teams and we look forward to cheering for you.
WELCOME TO BASEBALL SIGNEES
As you may have seen yesterday, we announced the completion of Coach Cannizaro's first signing class as the head coach of MSU's baseball program, and I wanted to take a moment to congratulate him on doing so. I also want to say thank you to our signees, many of whom committed to MSU under my watch, for choosing to be a Bulldog and for sticking with our staff during the period of transition between myself and Coach Cannizaro. By signing on to wear the Maroon and White, you've joined a family full of the best fans in college baseball.
If you haven't yet had a chance to meet or hear from Coach Cannizaro, I'd encourage you to purchase season tickets for the 2017 season if you haven't already at www.hailstate.com/tickets and to watch the video interview attached to this letter between he and our Hail State Beat reporter, Bob Carskadon.
We appreciate what you do for Mississippi State Athletics and want to encourage you to get others involved. There are three things you can do to help the athletic department at Mississippi State reach its desired goals –
1. Buy Season Tickets
2. Financially Support the Bulldog Club
3. Get Others To Do The Same
Thanks for taking the time to read this Update. Â
Hail State!
