What a game we had at The Hump on Sunday watching our Bulldogs win a Top-10, nationally televised matchup against Texas. Moments and games like those are part of what makes college basketball so fun and I want to thank all of you who came to Starkville and helped create an incredible atmosphere for our young ladies to play in. Not only that, but you helped give our Bulldogs the home-court advantage they've come to depend on in recent years.
Now at No. 7 in the country, that ranking shows how much work and effort has been put in by Coach Schaefer's staff and team, and I know he agrees that it couldn't have been done without the unwavering support of Mississippi State fans every week and every game. Our goal at MSU is to have nationally-relevant, championship-caliber programs, and that is just what Coach Schaefer has built here.
I watched Sunday's game with my wife and daughter, and we, like all of you, could clearly see the passion and confidence this team has. I look forward to an exciting season ahead of cheering them on to even greater heights. Good luck to the team in Hawaii this week, we'll be rooting for you from home!
CONGRATS TO CROSS COUNTRY ON NATIONAL FINISH
One of the great joys I've had these last few weeks as Athletic Director is the opportunity to spend time watching and traveling with our various teams, and on Saturday morning I was incredibly proud to be in Indiana at the NCAA Championships with Coach Franks and our women's cross country team. The ladies finished 15th as they came off their first-ever South Region Championship and I want to congratulate every individual involved on a tremendous season.
Coach Franks and the cross country program are another example of what we aim to build here, teams who are consistent in both their success and improvement from year-to-year as they compete at the national level. We enjoyed watching their successes this year and look forward to the bright future of this program.
BASKETBALL, VOLLEYBALL AT HOME THIS WEEKEND
After you finish eating on Thursday, I hope you'll join us on campus Friday and Saturday. Coming off a nice trip to South Carolina in the Charleston Classic where they went 2-1 on the weekend, Coach Howland and our men's basketball team are back in town for a pair of games in the next few days. We host Lehigh on Friday night at 7, then we welcome Northwestern State to The Hump on Monday at 6 p.m.
At noon on Saturday, Coach McFatrich and the ladies of our volleyball team have their final match of the season in Newell-Grissom. They have competed week in and week out through a long season, and they set records and program-bests along the way. They deserve our support and a great crowd on Saturday as they close out the year.
On behalf of all of us in Mississippi State Athletics, I wish you a happy Thanksgiving and safe travels as you visit family and friends for the holiday and your fellow Bulldog faithful in the Egg Bowl or in Starkville this weekend.
We appreciate what you do for Mississippi State Athletics and want to encourage you to get others involved. There are three things you can do to help the athletic department at Mississippi State reach its desired goals –
1. Buy Season Tickets
2. Financially Support the Bulldog Club
3. Get Others To Do The Same
Thanks for taking the time to read this Update. Â
Hail State!
