Welcome back to the many Bulldogs who will be returning to campus for Homecoming this weekend! Whether it's been five, 15 or 50 years since your time at Mississippi State, Homecoming is a time when we are thrilled to come together in the name of reuniting with old friends while we cheer on our Bulldogs.
Those who haven't been to campus in a while will see how much has changed, even just over the last few years, particularly for our athletic programs. Beyond the expansion and renovation of Davis Wade, we have new locker rooms, new practice facilities, new offices and even new stadiums for so many of the teams we support annually. Construction on campus had led to a bevy of new academic buildings, housing facilities, dining establishments and, of course, ever-improving roads.
In all facets, Mississippi State is constantly building and constantly improving. This weekend is a chance to celebrate our history with MSU as we cheer on the present and turn an eye toward the future.
MAROON MADNESS FRIDAY IN THE HUMP
For those who haven't seen our wide array of promotions, Maroon Madness takes place in The Hump on Friday night, with doors opening at 6:30 and the night of activities beginning at 7. This year, the annual pep rally for the start of our men's and women's basketball seasons is a joint production between the athletic department and the student association.
Festivities begin with a stroll off presented by NPHC at 7, followed by the presentation of the Homecoming court. Basketball activities will begin around 8:30 with the introductions of the teams, a shootout, a dunk contest and what promises to be an entertaining scrimmage with our men's and women's teams mixed together and playing with and against each other, three men and two women on each side.
And if you just can't wait until Friday, join us in The Hump tonight for the Maroon-White scrimmage with Coach Schaefer and our ladies who have been picked No. 2 in the SEC this year.
Admission to all basketball events this week is free.
REGULAR SEASON SOCCER FINALE THURSDAY IN STARKVILLE
It's hard to believe we're already this far into the calendar, but Coach Aaron Gordon and our soccer team have their final home game of the year, the regular season finale against Texas A&M on Thursday. The game begins at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast online on SEC Network+, but we hope you'll join us at the MSU soccer field to cheer them on. We want to have a big crowd as we congratulate our ladies on a hard-fought season of play.
WRAPPING UP THIS WEEK'S EMAIL IN MAROON AND WHITE…
- Congratulations to our volleyball team for a decisive victory over Tennessee on Sunday and good luck to Coach Fatch and the squad this week as they play at Arkansas tonight at 7 on the SEC Network and travel to Columbia to play Missouri on Sunday.
- Additionally, good luck to our cross country teams at the SEC Championships in Fayetteville this weekend. You've had a tremendous season and we're excited to watch you the rest of the way.
- And finally, all of us at Mississippi State want to say a very sincere thank you to Scott Stricklin as his time at MSU comes to an end this week. You will always be a Bulldog and a part of our family. Thank you for all you've done here and good luck on the next stop of your journey!
We appreciate what you do for Mississippi State Athletics and want to encourage you to get others involved. There are three things you can do to help the athletic department at Mississippi State reach its desired goals –
1. Buy Season Tickets
2. Financially Support the Bulldog Club
3. Get Others To Do The Same
Thanks for taking the time to read this Update.
Hail State!
