As the calendar continues to wind its way through October, we are inching closer and closer to basketball season. Excitement is as high as ever for both our men's and women's teams as Coach Schaefer's ladies were picked to finish No. 2 in the SEC this week, led by All-SEC junior Victoria Vivians, while Coach Howland welcomes to the floor the No. 4 signing class in the country, the best rank in program history.
Both teams are in Nashville this week for the SEC Tipoff 2017, and they'll be back in The Hump quite soon. Make sure to call the ticket office or visit www.hailstate.com/tickets if you haven't yet secured season tickets for either team.
Also, we invite you to join us in The Hump next Friday night, October 28, as we host Maroon Madness to kick off the season. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the NHC stroll off beginning at 7 and the pep rally and basketball starting at 8:30. Admission is free.
Both teams have exhibition games at the beginning of November with our women hosting Arkansas-Fort Smith on November 3 at 6 p.m. and our men playing Delta State in The Hump on November 4 at 7 p.m.
FOOTBALL ON ROAD AT KENTUCKY SATURDAY
On the back end of a two-week road trip, our Bulldogs travel to Lexington this weekend for an important SEC East matchup against the Wildcats of Kentucky. For those making plans to attend the game, be sure to join the Alumni Association at their pre-game tailgate. More information available here.
For those hanging behind, the game kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Central Time on SEC Network. We know how much our support means to Coach Mullen and the team as they travel this weekend.
WRAPPING UP THIS WEEK'S EMAIL IN MAROON AND WHITE…
- The SEC slate continues for volleyball as Coach McFatrich and the ladies play at Florida on Friday night before hosting Tennessee at Newell-Grissom on Sunday at 2 p.m. on ESPNU. Come out and join the fun on national TV.
- A huge congratulations goes out to Ally McDonald, our former golf star, who got her card and officially qualified for the LPGA Tour over the weekend. We couldn't be prouder of Ally, nor are any of us at MSU surprised by her success.
- Congratulations are in order, as well, for the ladies of our cross country team who placed ninth out of 68 teams this weekend at the pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Indiana. They have had an outstanding fall and we look forward to cheering them on in the postseason.
- And finally, a tremendous job well done goes to sophomore tennis star Nuno Borges, the 43rd-ranked player in the country, for winning the ITA Southern Region singles title, while the doubles team of Niclas Braun and Trevor Foshey made it to the finals of the tournament.
We appreciate what you do for Mississippi State Athletics and want to encourage you to get others involved. There are three things you can do to help the athletic department at Mississippi State reach its desired goals –
1. Buy Season Tickets
2. Financially Support the Bulldog Club
3. Get Others To Do The Same
Thanks for taking the time to read this Update.
Hail State!
