LONGWOOD, Fla. – Former Mississippi State All-American Ally McDonald and Denmark's Nicole Broch Larsen went back-and-forth in Sunday's final round at the Symetra Tour Championship presented by IOA, so it was only fitting it ended in a playoff.
Both carded 67s on Sunday to finish the four-day event with matching scores of 266, but Broch Larsen managed to snag the win on the opening playoff hole.
Despite the runner-up showing, McDonald can take pride in the fact she earned her LPGA Tour card for 2017 by finishing second on the Volvik Race for the Card money list with $110,359.
"I'm proud of how I played today," said McDonald. "It was only fitting that it came down to a playoff."
The Fulton, Miss., native finished the opening round tied for fifth, but used a second-round 64 to take the lead heading into the weekend. McDonald and Broch Larsen began Sunday tied after McDonald carded a 68 for her third round.
In 18 starts, McDonald finished 12 in the Top 15, and had 8 Top 10's.
She finished the year second on the tour in both scoring average (70.684), sub-par rounds (52.6 percent) and par four scoring (3.975). McDonald also continued the accuracy that made her an All-American at MSU, claiming the fourth-best greens in regulation tally at 73.3 percent.
