McBride Named To The Bowerman Preseason Watch List

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Two-time NCAA champion Brandon McBride has earned a coveted spot on the 2016 Bowerman Trophy preseason watch list.
This award is presented annually to the top collegiate tack and field male and female athletes of the year.
McBride, who is on this prestigious list for the second-straight year, is one of 10 nominees on the ballot and one of five from the SEC.
“It's always nice to be put on such a list,” the senior from Windsor, Ontario, said. “I'm excited to get the season started.”
During the 2014 campaign, McBride was crowned the indoor and outdoor champion in the 800m run.
“Word's can't describe how very proud I am of everything that Brandon has accomplished during his time here at MSU,” Mississippi State coach Steve Dudley said. “Not only is he a tremendous athlete, but also an excellent student who upheld a 4.0 GPA last semester. He's a team leader on and off the track.”
Throughout his career with the Maroon and White, McBride has been tabbed first-team All-American five times and second-team twice. Last season, McBride also earned Academic All-American accolades.
Entering his senior season with the Bulldogs, he's the school record holder in the 800m run both indoors and outdoors.
Last season, McBride finished fourth in the 800m run at the NCAA Indoor Championships and sixth in the 800m run at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Also at the outdoor championships, he and his teammates placed third in the men's 4x400m relay, helping lead the men's team to an eighth-place finish, the highest in school history.
McBride recorded a second-place finish at the 2015 SEC Championships in the 800m run.
Fourteen-time All-American Erica Bougard is also receiving votes for the Preseason Women's Bowerman Award watch list.
Last year, the senior from Byhalia, Miss., became the first female from MSU to be named to the Top 10 for this award.
She's currently preparing for her senior season in outdoor action.
MSU kicks off the 2016 indoor track and field season Jan. 8 at the Purple Tiger Invite.
