Happy New Year, Bulldogs, and welcome to 2016 for the second half of our athletic year! The last three teams in action in 2015 all closed out the calendar with wins, our men's and women's basketball teams both finishing their non-conference schedules, and of course our football team securing an entertaining victory in Charlotte at the Belk Bowl.
I want to thank all of you who came to North Carolina for the game, as well as all of you who came to games in Starkville or found any other way to support the team this year. We had a large, visible and excited Maroon and White crowd in Charlotte to help end the season and send off our seniors in a deserving manner. The entire Mississippi State community extends its thanks, as well, to Belk, the Belk Bowl and Bank of America Stadium for being such tremendous hosts during our week in town and for putting on an immensely enjoyable event.
Now, as 2016 begins, basketball is heating up and before you know it our spring calendar will be in full swing. Already, our baseball and men's and women's tennis teams are ranked ahead of their seasons beginning, and of course our basketball teams start SEC play this week.
Additionally, a quick reminder that the renewal deadline for baseball season tickets is quickly approaching, January 15th serving as the cutoff. Make sure you contact the Bulldog Club soon to secure yours.
MEN'S BASKETBALL HOSTS TEXAS A&M TONIGHT
As mentioned, conference play begins for basketball this week and our men kick off SEC play in The Hump this year, hosting the Aggies of Texas A&M at 7:30 tonight on the SEC Network. I encourage as many of you as possible to join us and arrive early as we will be honoring former head coach Rick Stansbury during pre-game ceremonies. Coach Stansbury is the winningest head coach in MSU history and helped build the brand of MSU basketball into what it is today. I know Coach Howland is appreciative and respectful of his achievements during his career as an assistant and head coach at MSU, and I look forward to giving him a warm welcome in his first return trip to The Hump.
Also, beginning Thursday night at 7 at the Dawghouse Sports Grill in Starkville, Dawg Talk with Ben Howland will officially begin, broadcast across the state on the MSU radio network. Hosted by Jim Ellis, the hour-long show will air every Thursday through the remainder of the season.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL AT HOME, LAST CHANCE FOR SEASON TIX SAVINGS
First, congratulations to Coach Schaefer and the program for earning the highest ranking in school history this weekend, as our ladies climbed all the way up to No. 6 in the country. That's quite an achievement!
After beating Florida on the road Sunday, the team is back in town for two games this weekend, hosting Auburn on Thursday night at 7:30 and Arkansas at 2 on Sunday afternoon. I look forward to having big crowds for both games.
And speaking of big crowds, now is the last chance to save money by purchasing season tickets for only $35, giving you the entire SEC slate for just over four bucks per game. That's a great deal to see a Top 10 team all year. Visit www.hailstate.com/tickets to secure yours today.
We appreciate what you do for Mississippi State Athletics and want to encourage you to get others involved. There are three things you can do to help the athletic department at Mississippi State reach its desired goals –
1. Buy Season Tickets
2. Financially Support the Bulldog Club
3. Get Others To Do The Same
Thanks for taking the time to read this Update.
Hail State!
