Records Fall During 2015 Football Season, Prescott's Legacy
January 05, 2016 | Football
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State football claimed back-to-back seasons of at least nine wins for the first time in program history and in the process, shattered 18 single-season school records.
The Bulldogs have broken 101 individual and team single-game, single-season and career records in head coach Dan Mullen's seven seasons (view the records here). Since the start of the 2014 season, MSU is tied for third in the Southeastern Conference in victories with a 19-7 mark behind only Alabama and Georgia while playing in college football's toughest division.
Individually, no player in school history left his mark like senior quarterback Dak Prescott. Prescott, the most valuable player in a 51-28 Belk Bowl win over NC State, will leave Mississippi State with 38 school records, two academic degrees and rank among the best signal callers in SEC history.
Dak Prescott's LEGACY
The Bulldogs (9-4) set nine Belk Bowl records, including four by Prescott – most plays (54), most net yards (427), most passing yards (380) and most touchdowns (4). He was the recipient of the Senior CLASS Award, which goes to college football's most outstanding senior. Prescott led all SEC players in bowl games with 427 yards of total offense.
Prescott is one of only four players in FBS history to throw for over 9,000 yards and rush for 2,500 yards in a career. He ranks among the top five in six different SEC career categories, including third in total offense (11,897) and fourth in touchdowns responsible (114).
Prescott's top target, junior wide receiver Fred Ross, became just the second player in school history to go over the 1,000-yard receiving mark in a single season. Ross caught an SEC-best and school-record 88 passes for 1,007 yards. The 88 catches tied for seventh in SEC single-season history. He's one of only five players in the league to catch at least 88 passes in a season in the last 14 years.
MSU produced multiple players of over 915 yards receiving in 2015, becoming one of only two Power 5 schools to do so (Washington State).
