Bulldogs Set To Tee Off First Tournament Of The Season

Charleston, S.C. - Coming off a record-setting season last year that produced two tournament victories, the Mississippi State women's golf team opens the 2015-16 campaign this week at the Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C.
Play at the Yeamans Hall Club begins Sunday and concludes Tuesday.
“Charleston is always a great test for our first event,” MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. “It is a premier tournament in college golf, with a fantastic course. It truly is a special opportunity to open the season with a bang.”
The Bulldogs found great success last year in South Carolina as they placed fourth in this same event.
Pacing MSU was junior Jessica Peng, who shot 6-under-par-210. This year, Peng looks to continue her success on the course as she has been preparing all off-season.
“I think that this season will be a huge success,” Peng said. “I tell myself before every tournament that I will succeed, and I know that the team is going to do very good.”
Now with the former All-American Ally McDonald graduating and moving into the coaching realms as a volunteer assistant, Peng will be heavily depended on to carry the team as best she can.
Another key veteran this season will be junior Ji Eun Baik, who competed in every event last season beside Peng. She led MSU at the NCAA Regionals with a 224.
Also returning in the line up for the Bulldogs is the senior Logan Chaney. Chaney competed in four tournaments last season, scoring her best round at the Bulldog's only home tournament, The Old Waverly Invitation, shooting a 220.
Elsa Moberly and Bianca Threon are two youngsters that will be having an immediate impact on the Bulldogs this season. Moberly was an early enrollee last spring and redshirted, while Theron is a true freshman this season. Both will be making their tournament debut Sunday.
“We are starting two freshman with Moberly qualifying for the No. 1 position. We have all been working hard on committing to every single shot regardless of where we are on the course, during our off-season preparation. We hope to exceed our high expectations this season,” Brown-Lemm said.
