STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State softball alumna and 2015 graduate assistant coach Alison Owen has accepted a position to become the assistant coach in charge of pitching at East Mississippi Community College.
A member of the National Junior College Athletic Association, EMCC is located in Scooba, Mississippi and is a part of the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges.
“I cannot contain my excitement on beginning my coaching career at East Mississippi Community College,” said Owen. “With our incoming freshman class and a wonderful sophomore class this program is on the up rise. I am excited to be a part of it.”
Owen finished her playing career for Mississippi State at the end of the 2014 season ranking within the top three in nearly every career pitching category despite just two years as a Bulldog. Owen established MSU records for most strikeouts per game (8.83), total strikeouts (473) and strikeouts looking (102).
“I just want to take a moment to thank Mississippi State for molding me into the person, player and coach I am today,” Owen said. “My teammates there and the coaching staff have been a huge part of my life. Vann (Stuedeman) and myself have went through fire and ice together these last few years and I cannot wait to see the new stadium this season and watch all of her dreams come true, including a national championship. She definitely deserves it. Hail State!”
The Newnan, Georgia native has spent the last two summers as a member of National Pro Fastpitch's Akron Racers.
“Alison is a brilliant young coach,” said MSU head coach Vann Stuedeman. “She will be hugely successful at EMCC and greatly missed at Mississippi State.”
Owen will still work toward completing her masters in sports administration with an expected graduation date of May 2016. She received her bachelors in human sciences with a specialization in youth studies in May 2014.
