STARKVILLE, Miss. - It won't take long for first-year Mississippi State coach Ben Howland to get a feel for how his team will respond on the road in league action, as the Bulldogs play three of their first five SEC games away from the friendly confines of Humphrey Coliseum.
However, the Bulldogs do open at home against Texas A&M on Jan. 6, before traveling to both Arkansas and Kentucky on Jan. 9 and 12, respectively. All three games will be on the SEC Network, with the Kentucky outing having an option to switch to ESPN.
MSU returns to Humphrey Coliseum on Jan. 16 to face Tennessee (SECN) before finding itself back on the road at Florida (ESNPU) on Jan. 19.
In all, Mississippi State plays 18 games, twice against Alabama, Arkansas, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Texas A&M.
“It's both a very challenging and exciting schedule in the SEC,” Howland said. “We have five different home-and-homes with extremely strong programs, and the other eight games are equally as tough. I'm excited and looking forward to the challenge of competing against the best teams in the SEC.”
Howland gets his first taste of the Ole Miss rivalry at the Hump when the Rebels (SECN) visit Jan. 23. Then it's off to South Carolina (SECN) and Missouri (SECN) to close out January on the 26th and 30th.
The February slate opens at home against Alabama (SECN) on the 2nd before another road trip to LSU (ESPN2) on Feb. 6.
From there, the Bulldogs get a break from travel as they host three-straight games against Arkansas (SECN) on Feb. 9, Georgia (SECN) on Feb. 13 and Vanderbilt (SECN) on Feb. 16.
To close out the month, MSU plays the second of its home-and-home series at Alabama (SECN) on Feb. 20 and at Texas A&M (ESPN2) on Feb. 24 before entertaining South Carolina (SECN) on Feb. 27.
The final two regular-season showdowns feature the second showdown at Ole Miss (SECN) on March 2 and home date with Auburn (SECN) on March 5.
The SEC Tournament also returns to Nashville, March 9-13 at Bridgestone Arena.
The Howland Era officially gets underway on Nov. 13 at home against Eastern Washington in double-header with the women's team.
