MSU Places Record 61 On SEC First-Year Honor Roll

STARKVILLE, Miss. – A historic 2014-15 year in the classroom has resulted in a record 61 Mississippi State student-athletes being named to the 2015 Southeastern Conference First-Year Academic Honor Roll.
The 61 honorees are the most among SEC institutions in the sports in which MSU competes.
That record tally comes after Bulldog student-athletes posted a 3.00 cumulative grade-point average for the first time.
Soccer led the way with 16 selections from Aaron Gordon's squad that recorded a record 3.56 GPA.
The Bulldog soccer team was part of Mississippi State's women's sports that posted their highest cumulative GPA ever with a 3.30.
Women's track and field and softball had five players each named to the list. Volleyball and women's basketball had four selections each, while women's tennis had two honorees.
On the men's side, football placed nine first-year players on the honor roll while baseball and men's track and field recorded five selections each.
Men's golf and men's basketball added three and two student-athletes, respectively, while men's tennis had one selection to the list.
Each student‐athlete must 1) have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship or a letter winner; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non‐remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
The SEC First‐Year Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2014‐15 academic calendar.
