Softball Unable to Contain Offense of No. 2 Gators

STARKVILLE, Miss. – On the second day of the series, the Bulldogs were not able to overcome an 11-run inning as No. 2 Florida (32-3, 5-3 SEC) defeated Mississippi State (24-10, 4-7 SEC), 16-2, Saturday afternoon at the MSU Softball Complex.
In the first inning, the defending champion Gators jumped ahead 11-0 on five hits, one error, five walks, and three hit batters.
Down 13-0 in the bottom of the third, senior Julia Echols got on base after being hit by pitch and sophomore Caroline Seitz smashed a RBI double that sent Echols home, plating the Bulldogs' first run of the game.
After allowing two more runs in the top of the fourth, the Bulldogs answered again. Senior Erika Gaul with a hard hit ball down the line reached second safely to start the fourth. Sophomore Katie Anne Bailey scored Gaul with a stand-up triple to cut into the opposing lead, 15-2.
A solo home run by Florida in the top of the fifth increased the Gators' lead to 16-2.
Aleshia Ocasio (11-2) received the win for the Gators after completing three innings allowing one earned run on two hits and recording four strikeouts. Holly Ward (6-2) took the loss for the Bulldogs. In 1.0 inning, she gave up 11 runs, five hits, five walks, and hit three batters.
The final game of the series will take place Sunday at 11 a.m. CT on SEC Network+.
