
MSU Track And Field Excels At Outdoor Season Opener

STARKVILLE, Miss. – To begin the 2015 outdoor season, the Mississippi State track and field teams brought home four wins on day one of the Alabama Relays.
“There's still a lot we can improve on, but I feel this was a solid start to our season,” MSU coach Steve Dudley said. “All of these athletes have been working hard and preparing for the season to begin.”
Kicking off the running events with a win was Ste'yce McNeil, Shayla Luckett, Euricka Hardy and Brianna Smith in the 4x200m relay after running a time of 1:37.10. On the men's side, Juston Waters, Charles Taylor, Alfred Larry and Willie Reed finished fourth with a time of 1:25.35.
In the 400m hurdles, Scottie Hearn won the event by clocking a time of 51.11. Teammates Dustin James II (55.66) and Wesley White (56.87) followed in 16th and 29th.
Marshall Nunn placed eighth in the 100m dash with a time of 11.02. Following Nunn was James Anderson (11.02) in ninth and Reed (11.20) in 17th.
Also on the track, freshman Mia Meydrich finished 19th in the 1500m run with a time of 4:39.90, while junior Madison Milhoan ran a time of 4:43.49 to place 30th.
Five distances runners represented MSU in the 5000m run. On the women's side, senior Carmen Brothers ran a time of 18:14.30 to finish 17th, while on the men's team Curtis Kelly (14:52.54), Branden Nosker (15:22.00), Mathew Dunn (15:41.09) and Matt Weickert (15:59.97) finished 10th, 22nd, 27th and 36th, respectively.
In the last relay event of day one, Waters, Larry, Taylor and Hearn finished first in the sprint medley relay with a time of 3:24.09. The MSU women's sprint medley relay team, comprised of Kimari Martin, McNeil, Hardy and Luckett, finished third with a time of 4:00.95.
Freshman Tiffany Flynn began the field events for the Bulldogs by placing third in the triple jump with a leap of 40-11.75.
In the high jump, Logan Boss finished first after clearing 5-08.75, while teammate Deja Givens cleared 5-03 to finish 13th.
With a throw of 40-08.75, Haley Reynolds placed 19th in the shot put with teammate Sasha-Gaye Marston (38-00) finishing behind her in 27th. On the men's side, Tautvydas Kieras placed sixth with a throw of 53-07.25.
Recording a new personal-best, Piotr Antosik finished sixth in the javelin with a throw of 226-10.
Action at the Alabama Relays will resume Saturday at noon with Reynolds and Marston in the discus throw. The first running event of day two will be the 4x100m relay at 2 p.m., which both MSU teams will be competing in.
