Ware Tabbed SEC Player Of The Week
November 16, 2015 | Men's Basketball
STARKVILLE, Miss. – When it comes to starting off the year on the right foot, you could not have done much better than Gavin Ware, who Monday was named the SEC Player of the Week.
Ware tipped off his senior season in dominating fashion, tallying a career-high 26 points to go along with 13 rebounds and 3 blocks to lead MSU to a 106-88 takedown of Eastern Washington on Friday. The double-double was the 14th of Ware's career.
MSU's starting center also set a career high on Friday with 11 made field goals, going 11-14 against the Eagles.
The Starkville native is now 73 points shy of becoming the 35th player in school history to score 1,000 for a career. His 13 rebounds moved his career total up to 667, which ranks 15th all-time in school history.
“I'm very honored to be named SEC Player of the Week, but the credit all goes to my teammates and the crowd for my play Friday night,” Ware said. “When you have the support I did from my teammates and the atmosphere that crowd provided, there's no way you don't play at your best.”
This is Ware's second SEC weekly honor, as he was tabbed SEC Freshman of the Week on Dec. 24, 2013. Ware is the first Bulldog to earn SEC Player of the Week since Craig Sword shared the honor with Florida's Casey Prather on Dec. 2, 2014. This is the first time a Bulldog has outright won the award since Arnett Moultrie on Jan. 16, 2012.
