STARKVILLE, Miss. – Eight members of the 2014-15 Mississippi State softball team earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2014-15 academic year, the organization announced.
To qualify for the honor, student-athletes had to have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 from the fall 2014 and spring 2015 semesters.
“We're proud of the strong representation among NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes,” said head coach Vann Stuedeman. “Our student-athletes understand the commitment to excellence required of them both on and off the field. These young ladies are winners in the classroom and out. I am happy to see our program tied to such a great honor with such a great organization.”
Seven of the eight Bulldogs return for the 2015-16 season with the lone exception being Julia Echols who graduated with a Master's in accounting this past summer. The rest of the group includes junior Katie Anne Bailey, sophomore Cassady Knudsen, senior Loryn Nichols, junior Caroline Seitz, junior Alexis Silkwood, junior Mackenzie Toler and senior Kayla Winkfield.
All eight scholar-athletes were also named to the 2015 Academic All-Southeastern Conference team, with Echols and Nichols also having been named to the 2014 Academic All-SEC squad.
