October 25, 2015 | Women's Golf
Starkville, Miss. – After a stellar career at Mississippi State, Ally McDonald is now trying to make a name for herself in the big leagues after finishing the second stage of the LPGA Qualifying Tournament tied for 13th place overall.
The LPGA tournament is broken down into three qualifying stages, with the top performers from each round advancing. The Fulton, Mississippi, native made it through the first stage back in August, where the Top 60 players advanced to the second stage, held this past weekend at the Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Florida.
McDonald fired a four-round total 294. She will now proceed to stage three of the qualifier, a 90-hole event slated for Dec. 3-7 at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Florida. The Top 45 finishers in the final stage will earn their 2016 LPGA membership playing card.
Her play this weekend also ensured her a spot on the Symetra Tour, previously known as the LPGA Futures Tour, that serves as the official developmental golf tour of the LPGA Tour.
McDonald has also been helping as a volunteer assistant with the MSU women's golf team, where she says she mainly helps with recruiting, as well as being a mentor.
