There isn't much better in the middle of fall than a nice homestand by the football team, and we've got the final game of the midseason stretch at Davis Wade Stadium on Saturday. We have three of our final five games (all of them SEC matchups) at home to close out the regular season.
It occurs to me how far we've come as a program that, with a 5-2 record currently, no one is talking about a possible sixth win this weekend making us bowl eligible in October. Coach Mullen has elevated the expectations for this program since taking over in 2009, thanks in large part to the dedication of our fans. We've set attendance records, seen record growth in the Bulldog Club and packed stadiums for bowl games across the southeast the last five years and counting. It's been a fun ride and I look forward to seeing where this season's journey takes us with so much football left to be played, much of it on our home turf.
On a related note, I'd like to remind those who have heard (and inform those who have not) that Saturday night's game against Kentucky is a blackout for the fans. You did a fantastic job with last weekend's stripeout and I look forward to an electric atmosphere this week. Whatever section you are in, we ask you to wear black on Saturday.
FIVE INDUCTED INTO MSU SPORTS HALL OF FAME, MCCARTHY HONORED
In conjunction with the M-Club this week, Mississippi State Athletics is honoring five new inductees into the Mississippi State Sports Hall of Fame. Ray Costict (posthumously), Erick Dampier, Straton Karatassos, Eric Moulds and Latoya Thomas will all be honored at the Hall of Fame banquet Thursday night and each will be introduced on the field during halftime of Saturday's football game against Kentucky.
Each of the five inductees are more than worthy of the honor, five great Bulldogs who defined the expectations and set the bar for their place in MSU sports. They all go down as some of the best to wear the Maroon and White and I am thrilled to honor them this weekend.
Additionally, a very cool honor is being posthumously bestowed upon former basketball coach Babe McCarthy as his hometown of Baldwyn, Mississippi, is erecting a Mississippi Department of Archives and History marker on Main Street in his memory. In addition to his great success and many wins, McCarthy is best known as the coach of the Game of Change team when he sneaked our basketball team out of the state to play Loyola in the NCAA Tournament.
WRAPPING UP THIS WEEK'S EMAIL IN MAROON AND WHITE
He's still got time left to build on his success, but I want to congratulate our quarterback, Dak Prescott, for officially breaking every single career passing record in the books at MSU. Dak has been an incredible representative for us off the field, a devotion I'm happy to see is only matched by his talent on the field.
We've got a light weekend in Starkville with only one game outside of football on campus, but I hope you'll stay in town and join us on Sunday at noon as our volleyball teams hosts Tennessee. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network, so let's show the rest of the conference the type of support we show our teams.
Also, as basketball season approaches, I want to remind you that the remaining season tickets for men's basketball are on sale now to Bulldog Club members, while the women's team has already set a record in season tickets sold with more still remaining.
We appreciate what you do for Mississippi State Athletics and want to encourage you to get others involved. There are three things you can do to help the athletic department at Mississippi State reach its desired goals –
1. Buy Season Tickets
2. Financially Support the Bulldog Club
3. Get Others To Do The Same
Thanks for taking the time to read this Update.
Hail State!
