June 24, 2014 | Softball
STARKVILLE, Miss. – With the summer travel softball season in full swing, Mississippi State's student-athletes spent some time with HailState.com to discuss their starts in softball.
Amanda Ivy served as a top pinch-running option as a freshman in 2014. She appeared in 17 of the squad's 60 games, primarily as a pinch runner. The 17 games as a substitute were the fourth most on the squad. The Batesville, Miss., prouduct scored five runs and drove in one during her initial campaign.
Q: How did you get started in softball?
A: I got started with softball because all my friends played. I wanted to be part of what everyone else was doing. Now I'm so glad I wanted to be part of the softball life.
Q: What was your first team's name?
A: My first team name was the Sluggers.
Q: What are some of your routines/superstitions on game day or during games?
A: Something I always have to do on game day is wear eye black. I also have some sort of braid in my hair with prewrap holding my hair back.
Q: What is your favorite softball memory?
A: My favorite memory of softball was being part of, and winning, a state championship game with an amazing team in 2008.
Q: If you could change one thing about softball, what would it be and why?
A: If I could change one rule about softball it would be courtesy runners for players. I think the catcher should be able to have the same courtesy runner each time she gets on base.
Q: I wear my uniform number because:
A: I wear the No. 25 because my former coach Ashleigh Hicks, who is like a mother to me, wore it. She has been such a huge part of my life since I was 11 years old.
