Seitz Named All-Region First Team

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Coming off a Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Team selection, Mississippi State third baseman Caroline Seitz was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-South Region First Team on Thursday, according to an announcement from the organization.

Seitz becomes the sixth freshman in program history to earn all-region honors and first since Ka'ili Smith in 2009. The Bulldogs have had at least one NFCA All-Region honoree for three-straight years and 22 of the last 23 seasons.

As a result of her selection to the first team, Seitz is now eligible for NFCA All-America First, Second or Third Team honors. MSU's last All-American was Chelsea Bramlett, who was a four-time selection from 2007-10.

Seitz enters this weekend's NCAA Tournament Lafayette Regional with a .350 batting average, 63 hits, 19 doubles, 19 multiple-hit games and a .633 slugging percentage. She was a Top 25 Finalist for the inaugural NFCA Freshman of the Year Award and set the record for most doubles by any freshman in Mississippi State history. She is tied for the third-most triples by a Bulldog rookie while her eight home runs, slugging percentage and 113 total bases are all tied for the third most in a year in program history.

The Birmingham, Ala., product begins the postseason tied for first in the SEC in doubles, tied for second in triples (four), ninth in total bases (114), tied for 10th in hits and 15th in slugging percentage. In only SEC games, Seitz paced the Bulldogs with 25 hits and a .321 average.

Seitz drove in game-winning runs versus No. 21 LSU, No. 4 Tennessee and No. 3 Alabama. She turned in a career-high three hits at No. 21 Auburn and hit .500 in the three-game series against Arkansas.

The NFCA All-America team selections will be announced on May 28.
