MSU Continues Its Success In Texas
March 29, 2014 | Track & Field
AUSTIN, Texas – Despite an hour-long weather delay, the inclement conditions did not halt the Bulldogs' momentum during Friday's competition at the 87th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays as Mississippi State track and field saw five top-10 finishes.
“I am so proud of this team,” MSU coach Steve Dudley said. “Alongside the most elite group of athletes in the country, we had numerous great races today. These guys continue to improve each meet, and they proved today why our program is on the rise.”
MSU's day was highlighted by the women's third-place finish in the University distance medley relay. The quartet of Katie Huston, Ste'yce McNeil, Ocian Archer and Rhianwedd Price turned in a time of 10:30.08, good for third on the school's all-time outdoor performance list.
In similar fashion, Patrick Monaghan, Scottie Hearn, Brandon McBride and Damian Roszko posted a speed of 9:49.18 to finish fifth in the men's University distance medley relay.
Senior Rochelle Farquharson landed a mark of 20-05.00 in the women's University long jump (Section A) to finish fourth.
Junior Ebony Brinker earned a 10th-place finish in the women's University triple jump (Section A). The Pontotoc, Miss., native's best jump of 40-07.75 narrowly missed the advancement to the finals as only the top nine moved forward.
Hurdler Javon Davis finished 30th in the men's University 110-meter hurdles prelims, clocking a time of 14.56. The event, which consisted of nearly 50 runners, featured some of the nation's best hurdlers, including Olympian Wayne Davis II of Texas A&M (13.64).
After qualifying for the 400-meter hurdles finals in yesterday's prelims (52.02), Davis later raced a 51.64 to finish fifth in Friday's finals. His speed marked a season best.
McNeil (13.66) and senior Keisha Wallace (13.75) crossed the line in 15th and 19th, respectively, in the women's University 100-meter hurdles prelims. With their times, the duo posted season-best performances, racing in a competitive field of 80 athletes.
Still to come, the Maroon and White will see action in two more events on Saturday, beginning with the men's Jerry Thompson Mile Invitational at 3:50 p.m. MSU will conclude its time in Austin, Texas, with the University men's 4x400-meter relay at 4:50 p.m.
