Softball Travels To The Plains For Regular-Season Finale
May 03, 2012 | Softball
Along with No. 11/11 Georgia (15-10 SEC), No. 22/24 LSU (15-10) and Kentucky (12-13), both MSU and Auburn are still eligible for the sixth seed in next week's SEC Tournament, to be held at Rhoads Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The Bulldogs are currently slotted seventh with Auburn a game behind in eighth. Kentucky, who plays host to LSU this weekend, is a game ahead of the Maroon and White in sixth. Georgia (vs. Arkansas) or LSU could tumble to sixth if either team fails to find success this weekend.
Starkville's team is 27-11 all-time against the Orange and Blue, with both schools owning 11 wins in games played at Auburn. The Tigers took the last series in 2011, 2-1, in Starkville, but the Bulldogs swept their SEC West rival in 2010 when the teams last met on the Plains.
After starting the new era of Bulldog softball with four wins in Mobile and a win in Birmingham from Feb. 9-14, 2012, MSU is currently riding a school-record five-game winning streak in the state of Alabama. State currently owns the longest overall winning streak in the SEC West (11) and has won 13 of its last 14 games overall. Should the Maroon and White win any of its three games this weekend, they will break the school record for most true road wins in a season with 13 triumphs in enemy territory.
Following the Auburn series, MSU will make its 12th appearance all-time in the SEC Tournament when it competes in the eight-team tournament in Tuscaloosa from May 10-12.
