Lady Bulldogs Battle Tough Conditions In Kentucky
September 30, 2011 | Women's Golf
LEXINGTON, Ky. - With the temperature dipping into the 40's and wind gusts up to 25 mph, Ally McDonald and Elena Warren fired a 77 and 78, respectively, to lead the Mississippi State women's golf team in round one of the Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invitational.
The Lady Bulldogs finished the day with a 320 clip and in fifth-place. Central Florida leads the field, but is only nine strokes better than the lady linksters at 23-over-par 311.
McDonald's five-over earned her a tie for seventh. She is just four strokes behind Illinois senior Samantha Sloan, who is atop the leaderboard with a one-over-par 73.
After getting off to a shaky start, Warren posted the most consistent round on the day with only five holes over par. Her back-nine, 2-over charge put her a stroke out of the Top 10.
Gallagher kicked off her sophomore campaign with an 82 followed by Perry Katherine Furr's 83. Auckland, New Zealand, native Rica Tse rounded out the Lady Bulldog's day with an 85.
"Very rough conditions today," Brown-Lemm said. "Golf course is very good, but anytime you play in 46-degree weather with 25 mile-per-hour wind, it is difficult to say the least. We had two freshmen step up today in Ally and Elena. With our a youthful but talented squad, we look for lots of lessons to be learned this season."
