MSU Ends NCAAs On High Note With 4x400 Relay Team Placing Third

DES MOINES, Iowa - Steve Dudley talked about the importance of closing the 2011 NCAA Track & Field Outdoor Championships with a statement.
Saturday, his Mississippi State team responded to the first-year head coach in grand fashion, finishing third in the men's 4x400-meter relay and setting a school record along the way.
In the Bulldogs' lone event of the afternoon, the quartet of James Harris, O'Neal Wilder, Daundre Barnaby and Tavaris Tate ran an MSU record 3:01.56 to garner All-American honors and end the 2011 campaign on a high note.
Texas A&M finished first at 3:00.62, followed by LSU at 3:01.07.
"Our guys ran with their heart today," Dudley said. "They could not have given one more ounce out there. They ran the fastest of anyone ever at MSU and finished third in the nation. I would say that is a pretty good day."
In the overall standings, Texas A&M brought home top honors in both the male and female categories for the third-consecutive year, a first in NCAA history. The Bulldogs finished tied for No. 20 with 11 points to mark the third-straight year for the Maroon and White to finish in the Top 20 at the Championships, and for nine out of the last ten years for the Bulldogs to finish in the Top 25.
