STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State senior infielder Ali Bainbridge has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District VI First Team, an honor voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Bainbridge earned the award after posting a 3.89 grade-point average in elementary education. She will now be placed on the ballot for Capital One Academic All-American.
"We are very proud of Ali's accomplishments on the field and in the classroom. It's a testament to the time and effort that she has spent as a student-athlete at Mississippi State," MSU head coach Jay Miller said. "It's nice to see her be awarded for her accomplishments off the field as well as on the field. Congratulations to Ali, and we hope she can go on to earn Academic All-American honors."
The Vestavia Hills, Ala., native has enjoyed stellar academic credentials throughout her career, garnering NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete and SEC Academic Honor Roll accolades in her first three seasons in Starkville.
The softball recipient of Mississippi State's Newsom Academic Award for 2011, Bainbridge earned the first-team academic all-district honor after being named to the second team in 2009.
On the field, Bainbridge has enjoyed a career year at the plate in her final season in the Maroon & White. She has collected a personal-best .336 batting average, and she tops the team with career highs in doubles (13), triples (4), runs scored (46) and stolen bases (20).
As she wraps her Mississippi State career, Bainbridge has started all 226 games of her career. A .300 hitter as a Bulldog, Bainbridge notched the 100th RBI of her career this season.
In addition to RBI, she will also finish her career ranked in the MSU top 10 in hits, doubles, runs scored, walks, total bases and hit by a pitch.
Bainbridge and her Mississippi State teammates close the regular season this weekend with a three-game SEC series at No. 7 Georgia.
Following the weekend set, State will venture to Oxford, Miss. for the 2011 SEC Tournament. As the eight seed, the Bulldogs will take the field at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 12. The game will be televised by ESPN2.
