STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State senior first baseman Courtney Nesbit has been named to the 2011 Southeastern Conference Softball Community Service Team, the conference office announced Wednesday.
During her four-year career in the Maroon & White, Nesbit has constantly given back to the campus and the Starkville community.
The Acworth, Ga., native is a regular reader to students through Bully's Book Blitz. She is also an annual contributor in Mississippi State's Halloween Carnival.
Nesbit has also participated in Starkville's annual Festival of the Trees, a Christmas-time event that aids the United Way, and the school's annual canned food drives.
"This is an outstanding honor for Courtney in her senior year. She has done such a great job leading our ballclub this year, and she has been a great contributor to the campus and the community during her time here at Mississippi State," Bulldog head coach Jay Miller said. "We are proud of Courtney for receiving this great honor."
In addition to her numerous community service activities, Nesbit has enjoyed stellar academic and athletic credentials.
A multiple NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete and SEC Academic Honor Roll selection, Nesbit has enjoyed a banner year at the plate in her senior campaign, posting career highs with a .308 batting average, nine doubles, three triples, eight home runs and 42 RBI.
Nesbit and her MSU teammates wrap the 2011 regular season with a three-game weekend series against her home-state Georgia, the seventh-ranked team in the nation. The series gets underway at 5:30 p.m. CT Friday, and all three games will be broadcast live on www.mstateathletics.com/m2mlive.
