Thornton Posts 12th-Place Finish At Rebel Intercollegiate

OXFORD, Miss. – Play concluded at the Ole Miss Golf Course with the Mississippi State women's golf team falling just one stroke short of a top-10 finish at the Rebel Intercollegiate.
With a 306 clip during the final round on Sunday, the Lady Bulldogs managed to climb one spot in the field to finish the tournament in 11th place. MSU posted a 923-team score, the best tournament score an MSU team has ever fired at the Ole Miss Golf Course. It is also the third-best score the Lady Bulldogs have turned in this season.
For the thirteenth time in seventeen tournaments, senior Erika Thornton finished atop the M-State leaderboard. With eight birdies on the weekend, Thornton managed a 7-over par 223 to finish tied for 12th in the field. It is her team-high fifth top-25 performance of the season.
Fellow senior Mallory Batson stole the show in the first round on Friday with a hole-in-one on the par-3, 138 yard 12th hole. She posted a 76 card on Sunday to finish with a 15-over par 231.
Freshman Esther Huffman posted a multiple birdies and an eagle during the weekend finishing just behind Batson with a 234.
Junior Perry Katherine Furr finished her first 54-hole tournament of the year totaling four birdies during the final round. During the event she bettered her scoring average by 4.1 strokes.
Mary Langdon Gallagher completed her final regular season tournament of her freshman campaign. With her ninth tournament appearance of the season, she carded a pair of 81's and an 82 to wrap up MSU's tournament.
The Tennessee Lady Volunteer's used its 279 tournament-record, second-round score to win the event. The team's 54-hole score of 863 is also a tournament record. Lady Volunteer Nathalie Mansson propelled the Lady Vols with her second-round, 18-hole tournament record score of 67. She won the tournament on the third playoff hole with a 3-under par 213.
The Maroon and White return to action at the SEC Championships on April 15.
