Bulldogs Give One Final Effort Before NCAA Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Jumps have been made, races have been run, and action has wrapped at the Last Chance Meet. For Mississippi State it was a good day as the team brought home a couple of first-place finishes and posted Top 10 times in every other event.
“Overall I think it was a successful meet,” head coach Steve Dudley said. “We had hoped to get some automatic qualifiers, but that just was not in the cards. We did move ourselves up in a couple of events; and now it is just a game of wait and see.”
Bringing home top finishes for MSU were freshman Marcus Jackson with his 7-1 jump in the high jump and the 4x400 relay team of freshman James Harris, sophomore Daundre Barnaby, junior O'Neal Wilder, and senior Emanuel Mayers, who posted a time of 3:08.56 in their winning efforts.
The Bulldogs also took to the track in the 400- and 60-meter dashes, and brought home Top 10 finishes for their efforts. In the 400m it was Harris (46.66) crossing the line first for the Bulldogs in second place. Harris was followed by Barnaby (47.56) in fourth and freshman Randy Patterson (48.72) in ninth. Junior Justin Christian was the lone Bulldog in the 60m dash, and he finished fifth with a time of 6.89.
MSU will spend the next couple of days waiting to see who will join junior D'Angelo Cherry and Harris at the NCAA Indoor National Championships. Both Cherry in the 60m dash and Harris in the high jump automatically qualified for nationals last week at the USA Indoor National Championships.
NCAA Indoor National Championship picks will be announced Monday, and the meet will take place March 10-12 at Texas A&M in College Station.
