
MSU Softball Hosts Alcorn State In Tuesday Twinbill

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State has compiled an 11-1 record at home this season, and the Bulldogs hope that success continues as they host Alcorn State Tuesday afternoon in a doubleheader that begins at 2 p.m. at the MSU Softball Field.
The Bulldogs return home after falling to 15-17 overall and 5-5 in SEC play with three setbacks to No. 23 Kentucky last weekend in Lexington.
Senior Ali Bainbridge leads head coach Jay Miller's squad at the plate with a .387 average. The Vestavia Hills, Ala., notched her SEC third-most 11th double as part of a three-hit evening last Friday. She has also hit two triples and three home runs while driving in 11 runs and scoring a team-high 28 times.
Junior Ka'ili Smith continues her stellar 2011 season, hitting .347. The Kapolei, Hawaii, native has two doubles and a pair of home runs. She has also driven in 16 runs while scoring 18 times.
Senior Courtney Nesbit leads the Bulldogs with three triples, seven home runs and 26 RBI. A .326 hitter, Nesbit has also tallied five doubles and scored 18 runs.
Sophomore Kylie Vry leads the MSU hurlers with a 3.78 ERA and 70 strikeouts. The Des Moines, Iowa, native has tallied five victories while tossing 90.2 innings.
The Bulldogs have met Alcorn State twice previously, winning both meetings. Tuesday's twinbill marks the first time since 2006 the two teams have faced each other on the diamond.
The Braves come to campus sporting an 11-14 overall mark. Brittanee Crayton leads her team with a .300 batting average. Barbara White paces Alcorn with 19 RBI.
In the circle, Deanna Rancillo has notched a team-high 16 victories. Her 5.61 ERA is second only to Kasey Duncan, who has won three games while compiling a 4.62 ERA.
