Tse Leads Lady Bulldogs In Round One Of SEC/PAC-12 Challenge
October 21, 2011 | Women's Golf
Tse played the most consistent round by a Lady Bulldog on the day with only three bogies and a birdie. She is only is only one stroke back of a Top 25 finish and three away from a Top 10 finish.
Competing against one of the premier collegiate golf fields in the nation, the Lady Bulldogs turned in a 317.
The SEC/PAC-12 Challenge features 15 of Golf Stat's Top 25 teams in the nation, as well as seven of the Top 10 players.
"We are playing with the best in the NCAA, and Holston Hills CC is set up at 6400 yards," MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. "Donald Ross design means smaller greens with lots of movement. The greens are surrounded by deep bunkers and it makes for an extremely challenging set up for our squad."
Top-ranked UCLA leads the field after firing a commanding 7-under-par 281, while Stephanie Meadow of Alabama and Lauren Stratton of Vanderbilt are tops individually after a 4-under-par 68 performances.
Freshman Ally McDonald chased Tse with a 78, while fellow newcomer Elena Warren turned in an 80. Mary Langdon Gallagher and Perry Katherine Furr rounded out MSU's first day with a pair of 85's
"Conditions were great today, we just haven't been able to get 4 players together playing well at one time," Coach Brown-Lemm said. "Our freshmen are carrying a big load, Rica Tse with her 74 today was a big day of starting her round well and finishing well. Ally McDonald hasn't played up to her normal yet, but we see that it is coming."
"We have to cut out the big numbers and continue to improve our short game with our new practice facility. As we have two more rounds to assist the SEC in our goal of taking the SEC/PAC-12 championship title."
Round two begins at 8:30 a.m. CST Saturday with the Lady Bulldogs teeing off at 10:10 alongside Florida, Oregon State and Washington State.
