Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invitational

McDonald In Bettie Lou Evans Invitational Title Hunt
October 01, 2011 | Women's Golf
LEXINGTON, Ky. - As the wind chill dipped into the 30's, Mississippi State women's golf freshman Ally McDonald maintained her composure and posted her second straight 5-over-par 77 in the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational to remain within striking distance of the lead.
The Lady Bulldogs teed off amidst a subfreezing wind chill in the Commonwealth State Saturday morning and managed to carve two strokes off the team's first-round total to turn in a 318. MSU's two-round 638 is low enough for eighth-place, just six strokes away from a top three finish.
Central Florida added to its tournament lead with a second-round 305 and owns a two-round 40-over-par 616.
McDonald climbed the poll to finish day two in a tie for sixth-place. She is only four strokes off pace with tournament-leader Kaitlyn Price, a UCF sophomore.
"It feels good to have a couple of rounds of collegiate play under my belt," McDonald said. "We are definitely in great position to move up the leaderboard in the final round."
Sophomore Mary Langdon Gallagher and freshman Rica Tse both bettered their first round totals by two strokes and six strokes, respectively.
Tse's six-stroke improvement included a team-high four birdies in the second round. She also carded MSU's fourth round in the 70's for the event, all of which have been posted by freshmen.
Freshman Elena Warren and senior Perry Katherine Furr struggled with the frigid temperatures but still managed to turn in an 82 and 87, respectively.
Live stats for the third round will be available through www.mstateathletics.com beginning at 8 a.m. on Sunday. Fans can follow Mississippi State golf on Twitter @mstateWG and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/mstateWG.
