MSU Softball Hosts No. 3 Alabama to Close Regular Season

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State faces its second-straight top-five opponent to close the regular season as it welcomes No. 3 Alabama to the MSU Softball Field Saturday and Sunday for a three-game Southeastern Conference series. First pitch both days is set for 1 p.m.
Saturday's doubleheader will be the Bulldogs' StrikeOut Cancer Day, with fans encouraged to join the Bulldogs in wearing pink. MSU will recognize seniors Jessie Bailey and Chelsea Bramlett prior to Sunday's series finale. Admission to all three games is free, and a free live audio broadcast will be available on www.mstateathletics.com/m2mlive.
The Bulldogs come into the final weekend of the campaign 26-26 overall. State, 7-17 in SEC action, sits a half game back of Auburn for the final spot in next weekend's SEC Tournament in Fayetteville, Ark.
Bramlett and Bailey both look to close out stellar careers wearing the Maroon and White. Bramlett has practically re-written the school record books, ranking first in season and career batting average, career hits and stolen bases for both a season and a career.
The Cordova, Tenn., native paces the SEC and ranks second nationally with a .529 batting average in her MSU swan song. She has tallied a conference-leading 92 hits while pacing the SEC and the nation with a school-record 58-of-59 stolen bases.
Bailey, a two-time Academic All-District selection and NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete, has enjoyed a career year on the field in her senior season. The Lithonia, Ga., native has tallied a career-best .299 batting average while standing second on the team with 11 doubles.
State's Misty Flesher and Lindsey Dunlap will look to bounce back in the circle after suffering MSU's losses against Florida last weekend. Flesher, who has gone the distance in her last three starts, has compiled a 12-9 record and a 3.96 ERA. The Lone Grove, Okla., native has struck out 64 over a team-best 123.2 innings.
Dunlap has picked up five victories and registered a team-high 67 K's while hurling 70.2 innings.
The Bulldogs will be meeting a Crimson Tide squad that has won 18-straight games while seeking the SEC regular season title. The Tide is paced offensively by Kayla Braud, who is hitting .490 with eight doubles, four triples, 28 RBI and 34 stolen bases. She has also scored 60 runs this year.
Charlotte Morgan provides the power for Alabama, hitting .344 with 10 doubles, 15 home runs and 62 RBI.
Morgan has also seen action in the circle behind Kelsi Dunne. Dunne has compiled a 22-4 record and 2.19 ERA while striking out 256 over 153.2 innings.
