Bramlett Named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America of the Year

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State senior catcher Chelsea Bramlett has added another piece of hardware to her incredible career. On Wednesday, the College Sports Information Directors of America tabbed Bramlett the 2010 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America of the Year for the University Division.
Bramlett earned Academic All-America honors for the third-straight year while garnering her second first-team selection. She is the second Bulldog to earn Academic All-America of the Year honors as Kate Jaspers claimed the award following the 2004 season.
"It's a tremendous honor for not only Chelsea, but Mississippi State University and our softball program," Bulldogs head coach Jay Miller said. "To be recognized as the top student-athlete in the nation is a huge honor and a tribute to her work on the field and in the classroom."
The Cordova, Tenn., native earned the distinction after posting a 3.61 GPA in teaching and coaching during a spring season that saw her post record-setting numbers at the plate and on the bases. Her work in the classroom during the spring helped guide the Bulldogs to a school-record 3.54 GPA that was tops among State's female sports.
Bramlett collected a school- and SEC-record .536 batting average that currently stands second in the NCAA Division I ranks. She also finished her career the SEC's career record-holder for batting average with a .461 tally.
A member of the United States National Team, Bramlett collected a league-best 98 hits en route to shattering Mississippi State's career mark with 359. The conference's triples leader, she also set the school's stolen base record with an NCAA-best 61 that ranks third all-time in SEC annals. Her 207 career stolen bases are the second-most in SEC and NCAA history.
Bramlett, who was named First Team All-Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association last week, opened the season with 55-straight successful stolen bases and a school-record 63 going back to the 2009 campaign.
The Top 10 finalist for USA Softball Player of the Year and the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award also scored 56 runs this season to give her a school-record 219.
