Bramlett Named Top 25 Finalist for USA Softball Player of the Year

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State senior catcher Chelsea Bramlett has added another honor to her storied career. The Cordova, Tenn., native was selected one of 25 finalists for USA Softball Player of the Year, an award that recognizes the nation's top Division I softball player.
Bramlett earned her third-straight selection to the top 25 thanks to a stellar senior campaign that has seen her post a .504 batting average that stands second in the Southeastern Conference and in the top five nationally. Bramlett has scored a league-best 46 runs, putting her currently in a tie for second-most in the nation.
She went 2-for-3 in Wednesday night's win against Mississippi Valley State in Ridgeland, Miss., adding a stolen base to remain perfect on the year at 48-for-48. Bramlett has not been thrown out on the bases in nearly a year, pushing her school-record consecutive steals streak to 56.
"Chelsea is very deserving of this honor considering the year she has had. I think she is having the kind of season that deserves being in the top three," Mississippi State head coach Jay Miller said. "The things she does for our ball club at the plate and in the field are huge. We want to congratulate Chelsea on this honor, and we wish her the best of luck as the season winds down."
Bramlett has already been tabbed one of 10 finalists for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, earned her third Preseason All-SEC selection and been named to the United States National Team for the second-straight year.
She is continuing her assault on the Mississippi State career record books. Two weeks ago at Arkansas, Bramlett added the career hits record (329) to go along with the top marks in batting average (.450), stolen bases (194), stolen base percentage (.933), steals per game (0.89) and runs per game (0.96). She is also approaching the career runs scored record, standing nine back of former Bulldog All-American Iyhia McMichael after scoring twice Wednesday night.
Bramlett and her Bulldog teammates travel to Baton Rouge, La., this weekend for a three-game series with 14th-ranked LSU. The two teams open the set with a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday's series finale is also scheduled for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
