Bulldogs Close Road Slate with Wednesday Twinbill at Auburn

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Mississippi State softball team closes the regular-season road slate on Wednesday when it travels to Auburn for a key Southeastern Conference doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. at Jane B. Moore Field.
The Bulldogs make their final trek of the 2010 season sitting at 24-24 overall and 5-15 in league play. Auburn has dropped five of its last six games to fall to 23-20 overall and 6-14 in the SEC. The Tigers stand a game ahead of the Dawgs in the fight for the final spot in the upcoming SEC Tournament.
Head coach Jay Miller's squad makes the trip to Auburn looking to build on the momentum of last weekend's series win at South Carolina.
Chelsea Bramlett hit .778 in Columbia to improve her SEC-leading batting average to .528. The Cordova, Tenn., also tops the league with 85 hits and a school-record 57 stolen bases. The nation's top base stealer, Bramlett set the top single-season mark for the fourth-straight year last weekend despite having her MSU-best consecutive steals streak halted at 63.
Bramlett's six steals against the Gamecocks gave her second place in SEC and NCAA history with 203 career steals. State's career hits leader, she heads to Auburn with 217 career runs, one shy of the Mississippi State record.
Sophomore Ka'ili Smith seeks to continue her solid 2010 campaign. The Kapolei, Hawaii, native has batted at a .348 clip while pacing the Dawgs with a sophomore-record 10 home runs and an SEC third-most 49 RBI.
Misty Flesher put together a pair of dominating efforts in the circle against South Carolina. The Lone Grove, Okla., native picked up both wins in the series to improve to 11-8 overall. Flesher has a 3.89 ERA this season and has given up 74 runs (62 earned) and 125 hits while striking out 60 over 111.2 innings.
Flesher and the rest of the Bulldog hurlers will meet an Auburn squad that comes into the doubleheader hitting .245 as a unit. Amber Harrison paces AU with a .320 average, 11 doubles and 28 RBI. Kyndall White (.295) and Elizabeth Eisterhold (.239) lead AU with six home runs each.
State's lineup will face one of the SEC's top pitchers in senior Anna Thompson. Thompson (13-7) is fourth in the league with a 1.58 ERA and has held opponents to an SEC-low .149 batting average. She has struggled in league play, however, compiling a 4-3 mark and a 3.22 ERA.
