Bulldog Softball to Host No. 12 Georgia in Tuesday Doubleheader

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Mississippi State softball team will face its second-straight team ranked in the top 15 as No. 12 Georgia comes to campus for a Tuesday doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. at the MSU Softball Field.
Admission to the twinbill is free, and both games will be broadcast live at www.mstateathletics.com/m2mlive.
Mississippi State holds a 21-18 advantage in the series and has won five of the past seven meetings in the series. The two teams split a doubleheader in Athens last season, with the Maroon and White taking a 3-1 win in 10 innings after Georgia won the opener.
The two teams played a three-game series in Starkville in 2008. MSU won the series after taking a 10-0 win in the opener and a 7-4 decision in Sunday's finale.
Head coach Jay Miller's Bulldogs enter the Tuesday set at 22-21 overall and 3-12 in the SEC after coming up short in all three games at No. 14 LSU last weekend.
Senior All-American Chelsea Bramlett had another stellar weekend at the plate, going 8-for-10 in Baton Rouge to improve her season tally to an SEC-best .524. The Cordova, Tenn., native also tops the SEC with a .537 average in league play.
Bramlett swiped three bases against LSU to improve to 51-for-51 on the season, three shy of matching the single-season school record she established last season. Going back to the 2009 season, Bramlett has stolen 59-straight bases, the second-most in SEC history and sixth-most in the NCAA ranks.
Sophomore Ka'ili Smith has hit .359 this season to help the Dawgs to a league fifth-best .303 average. The Kapolei, Hawaii, native paces Mississippi State with nine home runs and an SEC second-most 45 RBI.
Misty Flesher paces the Bulldogs with nine victories this season. The Lone Grove, Okla., native has throw 97.0 innings, compiling a 3.90 ERA while striking out 55.
Flesher and the rest of the MSU hurlers will face a Georgia squad that comes to campus hitting .324. UGA boasts a 31-8 record and 9-6 league record after sweeping Ole Miss in Oxford over the weekend.
Taylor Schlopy sparks the Eastern Division Bulldogs with a .430 batting average. She has also collected three doubles, three triples, eight home runs and 25 RBI while stealing 26-of-28 bases. Brianna Hesson has been Georgia's top power threat, collecting a .368 average while belting 11 home runs and driving in 42 runs.
Erin Arevalo has paced UGA in the circle this year, compiling a 15-5 record and 2.25 ERA. Alison Owen has collected a 1.57 ERA and an 8-0 record.
