Mississippi State and Kentucky have met 34 times on the diamond, with the Bulldogs boasting a 23-11 advantage in the series. State had won 11-straight and 16 of 17 until last season when UK claimed all three games in a hard-fought series in Lexington.
The Bulldogs host their second SEC series of the season boasting a 20-16 overall tally and a 2-7 league ledger. Head coach Jay Miller's squad defeated Southern University 4-1 on Wednesday following a tough weekend in Fayetteville that saw them come up short in all three to Arkansas.
Senior Chelsea Bramlett continues to pace the Maroon and White at the plate with a .520 batting average. The NCAA's third-leading hitter, Bramlett has knocked two doubles and a triple while driving in 17 runs and scoring a league-best 43 runs. She also paces the SEC with 45 consecutive stolen bases. Her steals mark is tops in the nation, while her per-game average ranks second behind Jamia Reid of California. State's career hits leader and a top 10 finalist for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, Bramlett has successfully swiped 53-straight bases going back to 2009.
Sophomore Ka'ili Smith collected a big triple on Wednesday en route to raising her average to .376. The Kapolei, Hawaii, native now has tallied a trio of three-baggers this season, putting her one back of Erin Nesbit's league-high four. Smith paces State with eight home runs, and her 41 RBI are not only tops on the team but tied for the best in the conference.
Redshirt sophomore Misty Flesher was solid in middle relief on Wednesday to collect her eighth win of the season. The Lone Grove, Okla., native has tossed 76.1 innings this season, surrendering 54 runs, 43 earned, for a 3.94 ERA. She has struck out 43 batters so far in 2010.
