Tennessee holds a 23-13 advantage in the series, but Mississippi State has won three of the last five meetings, including two of the three games played last season in Knoxville.
State welcomes the Lady Vols riding the momentum of a four-game sweep of the Bulldog Classic. The win improved the Maroon and White to 13-6 on the year.
Senior Chelsea Bramlett and sophomore Ka'ili Smith continue to pace MSU at the plate. Bramlett hit .556 with an RBI, six runs scored and seven stolen bases over the weekend to claim all-tournament honors. The Cordova, Tenn., native, who hit safely in her 16th-straight game on Sunday, tops Mississippi State and ranks second in the Southeastern Conference with a .500 batting average. She has also stolen 20-straight bases on the year and a 27 going back to last season, the fourth-longest streak in MSU history.
Smith earned Most Valuable Player accolades after pacing the Dawgs with a .600 average (6-for-10) and seven runs scored. The Kapolei, Hawaii, native, who raised her season average to .446, increased her team-leading RBI total to 19. Smith has also tallied three doubles, a triple, four home runs and 18 runs scored this year.
Freshman Kylie Vry put in another stellar effort in the circle for the Bulldogs. The Des Moines, Iowa, native was named to the all-tournament team after posting a 2-0 record and a 0.00 ERA. Vry, who struck out six in the four-game stretch, came two outs shy of her second no-hitter of the season in State's 8-0 win against Troy on Friday.
Vry and sophomore Misty Flesher own identical 4-2 records. Flesher, who was also an all-tournament selection, has struck-out a team-high 30 over 45.0 innings this season.
Tennessee visits campus boasting a 13-4 record paced by an offense that is hitting at a .330 clip. Freshman Raven Chavanne not only leads the Lady Vols but also leads the league with a .508 batting average. Her 20 runs scored are tied with Bramlett for third in the SEC, and she has added three doubles, two triples, a home run and 11 RBI so far this year.
Jessica Spigner has been Tennessee's top power threat, belting five home runs and driving in 18 runs while tallying a .425 average.
