JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Mississippi State men's track and field team closed out a successful weekend at the University of North Florida Invitational with three first-place finishes in Jacksonville, Fla., Saturday.
"I think we had a fantastic day," associate head coach Steve Dudley said. "Our guys ran really well in the 100 (meter dash) and the (110-meter) hurdles. I'm happy with the performances we had today."
On the track, State took top honors in the 100-meter dash, 110-meter hurdles and the 4x400-meter relay.
Senior Dwight Mullings claimed first-place in the 100-meter dash in 10.44 seconds. Kendall May was right behind him running 10.45 seconds for second-place and Gerron Hendricks finished fifth in 10.74 seconds.
Emanuel Mayers won medalist honors in the 110-meter hurdles in 14.38 seconds, while Martin Lee finished eighth in the event running 15.60 seconds.
MSU's 4x400-meter relay team, Deaundre Barnaby, Mayers, Mullings and Tavaris Tate, ran 3 minutes, 11.11 seconds to win the event for the first time this season. State's second relay team, O'Neal Wilder, Alex Richter, Trevarus Christian and Lee ran 3:21.16 to finish sixth.
"This time of year it's hard to run off the chart times in the 4x400(meter relay)," Dudley added. "But I'm happy with how both of our squads ran today."
The Bulldogs also had another impressive day in the field events having Top 5 finishers in the high jump and shot put.
Josh Tucker cleared 6 feet, 4.75 inches in the high jump to finish second. Kendrick Poullard and Christian jumped 6-02.75 and 6-00.75 to earn fourth and fifth place finishes.
Ed Weslea, the Bulldogs only thrower, turned in another top performance in the shot put. He threw 50-02.50 to finish second.
"It was a nice first meet and we got a lot accomplished," Dudley said. "We still have more things to work on for the remainder of the year, but I think we ran a really good meet this weekend."
The Bulldogs return to action March 20 at the Rhodes College Invitational in Memphis, Tenn.
