STARKVILLE, Miss. - A trio of Mississippi State pitchers held Southern University to three total hits as the Bulldogs won 4-1 in a non-conference softball game played Wednesday night at the MSU Softball Field.

Kylie Vry, Misty Flesher and Lindsey Dunlap combined to limit the Jaguars to a home run and a pair of singles. The no-hit bid was lost in the sixth inning when Victoria Stewart lined her fourth home run of the season - a towering shot down the left field line.

The Bulldogs (20-16) never trailed in the contest. MSU scored single runs in the first, third and fourth innings to build a 3-0 lead.

In the first inning, Allie Heon walked, took second on a wild pitch and scored on a triple by Ka'ili Smith. In the third inning, Chelsea Bramlett singled, stole second base, stole third base and scored on a soft chopper hit by Heon. In the fourth inning, Erin Nesbit reached on an infield error. Nesbit stole second base and scored on a single by Chelsea Raines.

After the Jaguars cut the lead to 3-1, MSU plated its final run in the sixth inning when Courtney Nesbit and Ali Bainbridge began the inning with back-to-back hits. After a strikeout, Raines collected her second hit and second RBI in the contest, plating Nesbit.

Flesher (8-4) threw four innings in middle relief to garner the win. Flesher allowed two hits and the lone run, while striking out three and walking none. Kylie Vry started for MSU but was lifted after a pair of walks and a hit batsman in the first two innings. Lindsey Dunlap worked around a seventh inning hit and walk to earn her first save.

Lanaya Jenkins (5-9) threw a complete game for Southern (5-23). Jenkins allowed seven hits and four runs (three earned), with four strikeouts and a walk.

Raines was the lone multiple hitter in MSU's seven-hit attack.

MSU hosts Kentucky this weekend when it returns to Southeastern Conference play. The teams play a 4 p.m. doubleheader Friday and a 1 p.m. single game Saturday at the MSU Softball Field.
