Bulldog Softball Returns Home Wednesday to Host Southern University

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Mississippi State softball team returns home following 13-straight games on the road, hosting Southern University on Wednesday in a 4 p.m. first pitch at the MSU Softball Field.
Admission to all MSU home softball games is free, and Bulldog Club members can earn reward points by having their Dog Tags scanned.
State returns home sitting at 19-16 overall and hitting .318 as a team paced by senior Chelsea Bramlett's SEC-best .529 batting average. Bramlett, who was named a Lowe's Senior CLASS Award finalist, has driven in 17 runs while scoring a league-high 42 times. She also paces the SEC with 43 stolen bases in as many attempts.
A three-time NFCA First Team All-American, Bramlett established another Mississippi State career mark over the weekend as she collected her 324th hit to pass Keri McCallum for the top spot.
Ka'ili Smith continues to have an impressive sophomore campaign, hitting .377 with seven doubles, two triples and a team-leading eight home runs and 40 RBI. The Kapolei, Hawaii, native tied MSU's sophomore home run record, and her 40 RBI are tied for the third-most ever by a Bulldog second-year player.
Redshirt sophomore Misty Flesher and freshman Kylie Vry lead the Mississippi State pitching staff this season. Both have tossed just over 72 innings, with Flesher claiming seven wins and Vry six. Vry, a Des Moines, Iowa, native, tops the MSU hurlers with 46 strikeouts.
The Jaguars visit campus sporting a 5-18 record after dropping three games to Texas Southern over the weekend, including a pair of one-run decisions.
SU's offense is hitting at a .240 clip this season, with Audrey Phillips' .361 tally leading the way. Phillips has collected a team-high six triples while driving in six runs and scoring 15 times. Victoria Stewart provides the power at the plate for Southern with nine extra-base hits and a squad-best 13 RBI.
Lanaya Jenkins has picked up all five of the Jaguars' wins in the circle this season. Jenkins has tossed 73.1 innings, giving up 52 runs, 42 earned, while striking out 37.
Following the mid-week meeting, the Bulldogs host Kentucky for a three-game SEC series on Friday and Saturday. Friday's doubleheader begins at 4 p.m., while Saturday's series finale is set for a 1 p.m. first pitch at the MSU Softball Field.
