MSU Softball Travels to Mississippi Valley State on Wednesday

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Looking to build on the momentum of Sunday's 11-5 win over Ole Miss, the Mississippi State softball team travels to Itta Bena, Miss., on Wednesday for a 4:30 p.m. game against Mississippi Valley State.
The Bulldogs make the trek west on Hwy. 82 boasting an 18-13 record following Sunday's win in Oxford. MVSU fell to 8-15 on the year after a 4-3 setback at Texas Southern on Monday.
The two teams will be meeting for the second time this season and the 16th time overall. The Bulldogs claimed an 11-1 win earlier this month to extend the series lead to 15-1. State has now won seven-straight over the Delta Devilettes.
Senior three-time all-American Chelsea Bramlett continues to pace the Bulldogs at the plate. The Cordova, Tenn., native paces the Southeastern Conference with a .515 batting average and is 39-for-39 stolen bases. She has also hit two doubles, a triple and contributed 15 RBI while scoring 36 times.
Bramlett has now swiped 47-straight bases going back to last season, giving her yet another school record. She's also approaching a couple more career records. Her 314 career hits put her just five back of the school record, and her 199 runs scored are 19 shy of Iyhia McMichael's record total.
Ka'ili Smith paces State in home runs and RBI. The Kapolei, Hawaii, native added her eighth round-tripper of the season in Saturday's series opener against the Rebels, putting her into a tie for the MSU sophomore record with Kellie Wilkerson and Katie Cooley. Smith's 35 RBI rank second in the SEC, one behind leader Francesca Enea of Florida.
Mississippi State freshman Kylie Vry went the distance on Sunday to pick up her sixth win of the season. The Des Moines, Iowa, native has tossed a team-high 69.1 innings this season, striking out 44 while compiling a 3.74 ERA.
Head coach Jay Miller's squad will meet an MVSU squad that is hitting just .217 as a unit this season. Ashley Hobbs leads the Delta Devilettes with a .373 batting average. Angelia Jones has been Mississippi Valley State's top power threat, belting three home runs and driving in nine runs while hitting at a .186 clip.
Lisa Jansen paces MVSU in the circle, compiling a 5-5 record and 2.69 ERA while striking out 64.
