Bulldog Softball Hosts No. 7 Michigan on Wednesday to Open Homestand

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Mississippi State softball team opens an eight-game homestand on Wednesday as it welcomes No. 7 Michigan to the MSU Softball Field for a 5 p.m. first pitch.
Admission to Wednesday's game, as well as all Bulldog home softball games, is free. Bulldog Club members can earn reward points by having their Dog Tag scanned 30 minutes prior to first pitch through the first 15 minutes of the game.
State returns home boasting a 9-5 record following last weekend's NFCA Leadoff Classic. Head coach Jay Miller's squad was paced by senior Chelsea Bramlett, who earned SEC Player of the Week honors after hitting .667 with a double, a triple, three RBI and five runs scored.
The Cordova, Tenn., native was also 7-for-7 on the bases, pushing her to a perfect 13-for-13 to open the season. Going back to last Apr. 22, Bramlett has swiped a school sixth-most 21-straight bases without being thrown out.
Bramlett's strong weekend pushed her average to a team-best .479. The MSU career leader in batting average (.441) and stolen bases (159), she has tallied a team-high 23 hits while driving in four runs and scoring 14 times.
Sophomore Ka'ili Smith extended her home run lead to four with a pair of round-trippers at the Leadoff Classic. The Kapolei, Hawaii, native has tallied a .419 batting average while pacing the Dawgs with 16 RBI.
Four State pitchers have combined to pick-up the team's nine victories this season. Freshman Stephanie Becker claimed her first two collegiate wins in Georgia to run her record to 2-1. The Aurora, Ill., native has also saved a pair of games while collecting a 1.31 ERA with 12 strikeouts over 21.1 innings.
Redshirt sophomore Misty Flesher has earned three victories this season. The Lone Grove, Okla., native has tossed the most innings on the squad (33.1) while striking out a team-high 21.
The Bulldogs will be meeting a Michigan squad that has started the season 9-4. The Wolverines dropped three places in this week's polls after going 3-2 at the Leadoff Classic.
UM makes the trek to Starkville with one of the nation's top pitching staffs in Jordan Taylor and Nikki Nemitz. Taylor has started the year 7-1, allowing just eight runs (five earned) on 26 hits for a 0.61 ERA. She has struck out 87 over 57 innings of work. Nemitz boasts a 2-3 ledger as she has given up 16 runs (11 earned) on 25 hits over 30.1 innings.
Offensively, Maggie Viefhaus' .475 batting average leads a Michigan lineup that is hitting a collective .280. Viefhaus has tallied two doubles, a triple and three home runs while driving in 11 on the year. Angela Findlay, a .282 batter, leads the squad with 16 RBI, while .243 batter Dorian Shaw tops the Wolverines with five home runs.
Following Wednesday's game, the Bulldogs close the pre-conference slate by hosting Troy, Mississippi Valley State and Wright State in the Mar. 5-7 Bulldog Classic.
